The One Health Trust, in collaboration with Christian Medical College Vellore, launched the GARP-India policy brief, “The Value of Vaccines in Mitigating Antimicrobial Resistance in India,” on May 4, 2026, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, India.
The event convened members of the GARP-India technical working group, along with experts from government and private healthcare sectors, international public health institutions, and academia, to discuss the role of vaccines as a key strategy in reducing infection burden and antibiotic use. Discussions also highlighted the importance of aligning immunization efforts with antimicrobial resistance surveillance and stewardship, expanding vaccination across the life course, and strengthening domestic vaccine production to support long-term impact.
The policy brief highlights the role of vaccines as a cost-effective and underutilized tool in addressing antimicrobial resistance, calling for prioritization of key vaccines such as typhoid conjugate vaccines and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines, alongside the rollout of influenza vaccines.
OHT’s Dr. Ramanan Laxminrayan, Rishiraj Bhagawati, and Shreyas Satish Kumar participated in the event.
