OHT researchers and collaborators are working on setting up a National Medical Oxygen Grid (NMOG), to ensure the supply of high-quality medical oxygen to all parts of a country and help deal with any fluctuations in demand. Besides preparations for emergency situations, the NMOG will also ensure the availability of oxygen in non-pandemic scenarios and help manage childhood illnesses like pneumonia.
The NMOG is a cellphone-based app to help hospitals and health officials keep track of where medical oxygen is needed and where supplies are plentiful. The app could be used to make sure no one runs out of oxygen in future crises. The system is being implemented in different states in India and will soon be used in countries in Africa as the technology can be applied in diverse regions of the world.
