In partnership with South Centre, the One Health Trust launched the policy brief, “Prioritize antibiotic access to tackle resistance,” at the First International Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance – The Americas and Caribbean Region in Brasilia, Brazil, March 24-27, 2026. The policy brief details important data that lays out the impact of inadequate access to antibiotics around the world. It describes the problem and different barriers to antibiotic access in diverse regions. Our teams provide short case studies from Latin America that reveal some of the ways inadequate access to antibiotics affect the region. Finally, the brief provides recommendations on what must be done to help ensure people have access to the right antibiotic, at the right time, in the right dosage, to save lives and control the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance.
