The Question
How has an increase in community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA) affected the overall burden of MRSA within hospitals?
What we found
In contrast to results found elsewhere, this study finds that the increase in CA-MRSA has not been accompanied by a substantial decrease in hospital-acquired MRSA (HA-MRSA). Instead, the decrease has been modest and increased prevalence of CA-MRSA adds to the overall burden of MRSA within hospital populations.
Why it matters
MRSA has become a serious challenge to hospitals and healthcare providers because of resistance to antibiotic treatments.
