Overview

Biobanking—the collection, processing, and storage of human biospecimens and data—is vital for biomedical research in both academic and commercial settings. Private biobanks, however, often face financial challenges that can compromise biospecimen samples. One Health Trust is working with pharmaceutical and research organizations across the world to better understand the value of biobanking and strengthen research capacity for biomedical and public health research.

The Study

FIND Diagnosis for All is a global nonprofit organization driving innovation in the development and delivery of diagnostics to combat major diseases that afflict the world’s poorest populations. Because of the sustainability challenges of commercial biobanking, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations like FIND are setting up parallel, not-for-profit biobanks whose samples are available to users at low or minimal cost. Understanding the value of biobanks is necessary to strengthen research capacity for biomedical and public health research.

OHT and FIND Diagnosis for All are conducting a survey to determine which biobank attributes are most valued by biomedical and health researchers.
