The One Health Trust’s Dr. Ramanan Laxminarayan co-authored an article in Think Global Health, an initiative from the Council on Foreign Relations, that raised concerns over the non-inclusion of access to medical oxygen in the agenda of the UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response, to be held in late September 2023.
The omission was surprising, as less than six months prior, member states unanimously adopted a resolution on increasing access to medical oxygen in a milestone decision at the World Health Assembly. The resolution also stressed the need to include medical oxygen in global and national pandemic preparedness and response efforts and other health emergencies.
