The One Health Trust, along with the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) Ha Noi, and the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases (NHTD), organized an in-person meeting on the value of vaccines in mitigating antimicrobial resistance in Vietnam on May 24.

Presentations and discussions in the workshop touched upon the structure of the immunization programs in Vietnam, and how vaccines could be leveraged to mitigate the AMR burden in the country. The recommendations discussed today will be compiled in a policy brief in the coming weeks and presented to relevant ministry-level stakeholders in the country.

Organized by the Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership’s (GARP) Vietnam chapter, experts participated in the event from several national and international public health institutions, including the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG) Vietnam, General Department of Preventive Medicine (GDPM) under the Ministry of Health in Vietnam, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute, the World Health Organization country office, United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), PATH, and the Sydney Vietnam Institute, among others.

From OHT, Senior Research Analyst Rishiraj Bhagawati presented the work done by GARP globally so far, and evidence from Vietnam on the potential for vaccines to address AMR in Vietnam.
