Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
AMR occurs when pathogens become resistant to current medications, such as antibiotics, making infections harder to treat and increasing disease spread and severity.
Broad-Spectrum Antibiotics
This type of antibiotic is used when a bacterial infection is suspected, but the type of bacteria is unknown or when an infection is suspected to be caused by multiple kinds of bacteria.
Narrow-Spectrum Antibiotics
This type of antibiotic is effective against a specific group of bacteria. The bacteria causing the infection must be identified to determine a corresponding narrow-spectrum antibiotic treatment.
