Despite the high prevalence of inappropriate antibiotic prescribing in urgent care settings and emergency departments, not much research has been conducted to investigate the racial and socioeconomic disparities that affect antibiotic prescribing, especially in adults, in those settings. Thus, to bridge the existing gaps in research on health disparities and help create policies that can promote health equity in the U.S., One Health Trust researchers examined the discrepancies in antibiotic prescribing based on race and socioeconomic status in five emergency departments of large hospitals.
