Thomas P. Van Boeckel

Visiting Fellow

Thomas Van Boeckel is a Visiting Fellow based in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Dr. Van Boeckel and his team focus on mapping the global trends in antimicrobial use and resistance (AMR) in farm animals and fish. They use computational approaches to assemble large databases (resistancebank.org), track trends in AMR, and optimally allocate surveillance resources. We work primarily in low- and middle-income countries.

He works as an Associate Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg. He was previously an assistant professor at ETH Zurich. Before joining ETH, Dr. Van Boeckel was a Fulbright Research Scholar at Princeton University.

Dr. Van Boeckel received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Environmental Engineering from the Free University of Brussels (ULB) before obtaining a PhD in Spatial Ecology and Epidemiology from ULB.

His research interests include antimicrobial resistance, spatial epidemiology, disease mapping, and animal production.
