Daniel Schar is a Visiting Fellow at the One Health Trust where his research focuses on mitigating antimicrobial resistance and emerging disease risk across food production systems.

Previously, Dr. Schar served as Senior One Health Advisor at the United States Agency for International Development, where he oversaw work addressing emerging viral zoonoses, avian influenza, antimicrobial resistance, and economic approaches to emerging infectious disease prevention.

In addition to research and policy publications, Dr. Schar’s writing has appeared in the New York Times, Scientific American, Stat, Science, South China Morning Post, and Slate. He holds a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in spatial epidemiology from the Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium.

His research interests include mapping disease distribution, antimicrobial use and resistance, and One Health.
