In the Hindustan Times, OHT’s Dr. Ramanan Laxminarayan writes that achieving the Viksit Bharat 2047 goal (the Indian government’s aim to make the country’s economy self-reliant and prosperous) requires greater investment in health.
Over time, neglecting the health of the population can turn economic growth from a source of progress into a source of fragility. Viksit Bharat envisions India as a $30-trillion economy with a per capita income of US$18,000–21,000, implying developed-nation status. But even if these ambitious targets are met, can India truly be considered “developed” without prioritizing the health and well-being of its people?
