In Africa Times Network’s coverage of the GARP-Kenya policy brief launch, experts highlighted the critical role vaccines can play in tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
The report shows that vaccines can significantly reduce infections through herd immunity, thereby lowering transmission and easing the burden on already stretched health systems.
At the launch, experts also emphasized the need for a One Health approach, noting that diseases and resistant pathogens can spread between animals, humans, and the environment, making cross-sector collaboration essential.
Developed by the Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership (GARP)-Kenya technical working group, led by the Kenya Medical Research Institute and the One Health Trust, the policy brief outlines actionable strategies to reduce infections, curb antibiotic use, and slow the spread of AMR.
