In the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg’s coverage of a landmark study led by the One Health Trust, OHT’s Gilbert Osena said, “We often say that the main challenge in addressing antibiotic resistance in Africa is the lack of data. This study shows that the issue is not only limited to missing data, but also to the very high resistance levels that are now becoming visible.”
The analysis, conducted in collaboration with the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg and the Centre for Antibiotic Resistance Research (CARe), is the largest retrospective study on antibiotic resistance in Africa published to date and highlights the need for significant investments to enhance laboratory capabilities and healthcare access.
