In SeafoodSource news, Nigeria’s Federal Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services warned that rising and inappropriate antibiotic use could put the country’s aquaculture industry at risk.
OHT’s Dr. Daniel Schar told SeafoodSource that substantial gaps remain in understanding antimicrobial use in aquatic animals, especially in rapidly growing regions. He called for stronger surveillance and more targeted action, noting that healthier aquaculture systems can reduce antibiotic use while improving yields.
