GARP Nepal organized an in-person workshop on ‘Antimicrobial Resistance and Vaccines in Nepal,’ in Kathmandu on January 11, 2024. Experts from several public health institutions joined the discussion on using vaccines in the fight against AMR, including the Nepal Public Health Foundation (NPHF), the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group, the Department of Health Services, the National Public Health Laboratory, the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit, and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, among others. The workshop, organized jointly by NPHF and the One Health Trust, included presentations and discussions that touched upon the AMR burden in the human and animal sectors in Nepal, the importance of immunization programs in national AMR strategies, and ways to convey the recommendations of the forum to policymakers. OHT’s Rishiraj Bhagawati presented the work done by GARP in various countries so far, and evidence on how immunization can mitigate the AMR burden in the country.
