In a blog by the Philanthropy Asia Alliance, experts highlight how Asia can respond to the growing threat of mosquito-borne diseases and why collective action is urgently needed.
The blog reflects on discussions held in Davos, Switzerland, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2026, where leaders examined how stronger surveillance, data sharing, and cross-sector collaboration can help countries detect and respond to outbreaks earlier.
At the event, OHT’s Dr. Ramanan Laxminarayan stressed that traditional disease surveillance systems were built for a different era. He highlighted the need for integrated surveillance that connects human, animal, and environmental data, and highlighted approaches such as wastewater monitoring, which can detect outbreaks weeks before cases rise.
