Former CDDEP Research Analyst and Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership Coordinator Alice Easton is among the recipients of the 2012 Marshall Scholarship.  Awarded to up to 40 American students each year, Marshall Scholarships fund advanced study at institutions across the UK.

As a Marshall Scholar, Alice will join Imperial College London to conduct doctoral research in the department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology. “My long-term goal is to make a measurable impact on the health of vulnerable populations, by developing and evaluating programs that are evidence-based but flexible to local needs, she recounted.  The encouragement and advice I received from my mentors at CDDEP and Princeton, and the two years I spent coordinating the Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership-India, both led me to my current academic path and helped prepare me for it.”

Alice joined CDDEP in 2009 as the India Coordinator for the Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership (GARP).  Hellen Gelband, Associate Director of CDDEP, worked closely with Alice throughout her tenure. As the GARP-India coordinator, Alice was not just living in Delhi as an expat, but absorbing the culture and the language, and really getting to know the people.  What made her such a good candidate for the Marshall Scholarship was her curiosity about and respect for other cultures.

CDDEP congratulates Alice on her scholarship and we look forward to her next steps!
