On September 30, 2023, the Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership’s (GARP) Pakistan chapter organized an in-person workshop in Islamabad titled — Value of vaccines to mitigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Pakistan. Carrying forward the work done so far by the technical working group of GARP Pakistan, the workshop covered several topics related to the impact of vaccines on AMR in the country, including the national trends of AMR in vaccine-preventable pathogens, antibiotic consumption and vaccine utilization data from the country, and issues in tackling AMR among livestock through vaccines in Pakistan, and other issues.

Experts participated from diverse AMR-relevant backgrounds, including immunization, infectious diseases, microbiology, community medicine, drug regulation, veterinary medicine, and academia.

Initiated in 2008 by the One Health Trust, GARP has played an important role in advancing country-led national strategies and policies to address AMR in countries in Africa and Asia. GARP’s current focus is generating and communicating cross-disciplinary evidence describing the value of vaccines in the mitigation of AMR in country-specific contexts.
